This class meets only once a week. Missing one class is equivalent to missing a week of school. Do your best to stay healthy and attend all classes. I suggest beginning homework the day after it is assigned. This will give you time to get help with issues that are not completely understood or issues with the software. I will not be able to repeat 3 hour lectures for students who miss class. If you miss a class please make sure you have contact info for classmates who can help you catch up. A digital camera is a prerequisite for this class. Bring your camera to class. When composing, setting up and shooting photos get the best pictures possible. Digital technology has a magical component but it cannot make bad photos good. It can help make good photos better.
You will need a dedicated notebook for EI_I. This notebook will contain sketches, ideas and class notes among other things.
You will need media for back up of work in progress and resource files. These may be DVD's, key flash drives and portable hard drives. Do not rely on the school servers as your sole source of backup. Failure to heed this advice can have severe consequences.
Lab policies and manners:
Please treat the lab with respect, as a place of study or worship, like a library or monastery.
Carefully read the lab handbook and follow the guidelines therein.

Students who do not follow these rules are subject to losing lab access privileges.

Grading:
You are graded every week on the homework that you complete. Homework must be turned in prior to 10:00 p.m. on the day before class. Do not wait till the night before class to complete your weekly projects. Plan on murphy's law striking every week. Late homework will not count. Final projects count no more than the work of any other week. Attendance is taken only once, promptly at beginning of class and is used in determining grades. ( If you cant get to class on time you are in the wrong field.) An old wise man once said: "if your on time your late, if your are early, your on time."
Final grade is an average of the 15 weekly grades, attendance and participation. Weekly evaluations are based on depth and quality of project exploration.
Time expectation:
You will need to allocate a minimum of 6 hours outside of class per week.
Use of lab on weekends recommended.
Grades are a way to get feedback on your efforts.
If your goal is to find employment in this field there are other factors that are equally or more important. These are the quality of your portfolio (including preliminary sketches and story board), letters of recommendation, references, and work experiences, such as internships.
